Debbie Whitsett

Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, Debbie moved to Fort Mill in 2012 and founded Olive’s Mud Puddle, a gallery, gift shop, and ceramics studio that has become a local arts hub. A self-taught artist with roots in a creative family, she began her career crafting intricate custom birdhouses before discovering her passion for ceramics and teaching.
Debbie’s work has earned top honors, including First Place Professional Ceramics at the 2025 and 2021 SC State Fairs, a 2023 Merit Award in Sculpture, and recognition as 2024 York County Hospitality Professional of the Year and 2023 Business Supporting the Arts.
In addition to ceramics, Debbie is an accomplished muralist and illustrator, known for creating the Fort Mill Strawberry Festival posters and 5K race trophies. Through her art and community involvement, she continues to enrich Fort Mill’s growing cultural landscape.

Smelling the rich vapors of my uncle and grandfathers' oil paints was a big influence on my life. It touched my brain as only caustic chemicals can. But seriously, the chain of events of my life molded me and guided me to the artist I am today. I am extremely grateful to be able to do what I love, create. Painting and sculpting liberate my good feelings, and joy. I just want to share that with everyone. I have no favorites between them, they are equal in value and in pleasure. The bright colors that painting allows me to employ on the canvas is a festival for my eyes. I hope you feel the same! Happy, Shiny!
